2020 was supposed to be the best wedding season ever. We were so looking forward to it and we had so many incredible weddings lined up – in our favorite Santorini, Greece, Spain, Austria and so many couples from all over the world in Slovenia. The year started out great with winter wedding and a destination elopement in Austria. There was some talk about a new virus, but it seemed so far away, somewhere in China. We didn't take it seriously at all. We remember joking and laughing about it with our couple from Singapore in Austria. Little did we know, the harsh reality is going to hit us soon.
When we got back home, the first case was confirmed in Slovenia and a scenario straight out of Hollywood enfolded. Nobody could imagine what was going to happen and we still feel we're in a movie from time to time.
The first quarantine planted fear in our couples and most of the April, May and even some June weddings were postponed or cancelled. Some couples were waiting till the end and as soon as the Covid measurements were lifted, we could work again and breath a bit easier. Since many couples had to choose alternative dates, the season was very concentrated and we tried our best to fit everything into the short time frame. Nonetheless, the virus took its toll and we were able to photograph about a half of the planned weddings. So many couples had to adapt their wedding plans to the government measurements – lower number of guests or timeline changes.
We’re really thankful that we did get to work. We’re also thankful for our couples, vendors and wedding guests that made 2020 amazing despite the pandemic. Joy, laughter, warm hugs, happiness weren’t cancelled and, in the end, love won. The virus took so much from us, but taught us some valuable lessons at the same time. Maybe the biggest one was that you just can’t influence some things. Sometimes you just have to let it go and go with the flow. Maybe the forced time off showed us what really matters in life and we got our priorities straight.
Looking back on 2020, the season still puts big smiles on our faces. Look at all the amazing things that happened, all the moments we got to capture. So many beautiful stories. The whole pandemic situation really made us connect even more with our couples. Choosing the photos for our BEST OF WEDDINGS 2020 was really hard this year, since each wedding was so unique.
We’re hoping that 2021 brings us a new normal that will allow us to successfully complete the wedding season and celebrate love with our dear couples. Until then, enjoy in all the amazing moments from 2020!
